Softball Divisions

All Softball Divisions

Teams usually practice twice a week.  Games are during the week and almost every Saturday during the season.  We play home games at Paul C Armstrong Park on CR 220 and other teams in the Clay, Bradford and Duval county area. District Tournament play begins in June.

FIAA provides each softball player a jersey, softball pants, belt and socks for their registration fee.

Sportsmanship, teamwork and most of all having fun is our goal while learning to play competitive softball.

8U Softball

Our 8 & Under program is designed for softball players who are 8 years old or younger on January 1st for the current year.

Primary emphasis is on teaching the fundamentals for throwing, catching and hitting a softball.  The 8U division plays with an 11” softball and uses a pitching machine for hitting.  Defensively there are 10 players on the field during a game and all players bat the entire game.

Players should have their own glove, cleats (no metal cleats) and batting helmets with face guard.  Infielder’s masks are encouraged for all players on the infield.  Bats are not necessary for players to own.  In fact, consult with the coach and allow your child to try out several bats before making that purchase if you’d like them to have their own bat.  When purchasing a glove look for a softball glove and keep in mind they will be catching an 11” ball so even small hands need a glove that holds a “big” ball.  A baseball is much smaller and t-ball gloves tend to not work well for young softball players as it’s too small of a pocket.

10U Softball

Our 10 & Under program is designed for softball players who are 10 years old or younger on January 1st for the current year.  There are occasions where a player may “play up” if they are ready for the player pitch level.

Primary emphasis is on teaching the fundamentals for throwing, catching, pitching and hitting a softball.  The 10U division plays with an 11” softball. This level has player pitching with run limits of 5 per inning.  This is designed to start teaching the skill of pitching to players and allow batters to learn the “live hitting” skill.  Defensively there are 10 players on the field during a game and all players bat the entire game.  Stealing is also introduced at this level for base running.

Players should have their own glove, cleats (no metal cleats), and batting helmet with a face guard.  Infielder’s mask are encouraged for all infielders.  A bat is an optional item and if new to the sport please consult with the coach.  Before making that purchase, allow the player to try out several bats at practice.

12U Softball

Our 12 & Under program is designed for softball players who are 12 years old or younger on January 1st for the current year.  There are occasions where a player may “play up” if they are ready for the next level of play.  Some players may be invited “play up” for a game or two during the season.

Primary emphasis is enhancing the fundamentals of softball to groom players for a more competitive level of play.  The 12U division plays with a 12” softball. This level has player pitching with run limits of 5 per inning.  This is designed to further develop the skills of the players for those interested in playing school ball in junior high while still being a recreational division for those that are not interested in the competitive travel ball experience. Defensively there are 9 players on the field during a game and all players bat the entire game.

It is encouraged that all infielders wear an infielder’s mask at this level. Players should have their own glove, cleats (no metal cleats) and batting helmet.  Additional safety equipment such as a mouth guard or chest shield/protector under jersey is encouraged as well. Personal bats are not required as many players share bats.

14U Softball

Our 14 & Under program is designed for softball players who are 14 years old or younger on January 1st for the current year.  There are occasions where a player may “play up” if they are ready for the next level of play.  Some players may be invited “play up” for a game or two during the season.

Primary emphasis is enhancing the fundamentals of softball to groom players for a more competitive level of play.  The 14U division plays with a 12” softball. This level has player pitching with run limits of 7 per inning.  This is designed to further develop the skills of the players for those interested in playing school ball in junior high/high school while still being a recreational division for those that are not interested in the competitive travel ball experience.
